THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR ENGINEERING:
SEARCHING FOR NEW AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ENERGY.
After reading two articles describing the future of engineering, in my opinion, among the great challenges which await engineering in the 21st century, the most challenging thing is searching for new and environmentally friendly energy. It is also the most important thing for the profession.
Firstly, our environment is more and more polluted because the use of fossil fuel such as coal, oil, and many. In our daily life, we use much fossil fuel but we do not take notice of. Our cars consume gasoline, buses consume diesel, etc. Many industries also need oil and coal to manufacture. As a result, pollutant is emitted and contaminates the environment.
Secondly, the old unfriendly energy also affects people's health. For example, in Ho Chi Minh city, the concentration of the pollutant in the air is from 1.3 to 2.9 times more than the permitted standard. Consequently, many people have problem with their respiratory system.
Thirdly, the fossil fuel is being used up and it is crucial that we search for the new environmentally friendly energy. According to many eperts, the coal and oil in the Earth will run out in several decades. The experts are working with some new kinds of enerrgy like solar energy, wind energy but it is hard to find the nwe kinds of energy that can replace fossil fuel.
In conclusion, searching for new and environmentally friendly energy is really a big challenge but there are many prospects for engineering.

I agree with you the idea that searching a new environmentally friendly engergy is a very important mission of the engineering in this century. And in my opinion, creating modern machines which can minize the harmful exhaust emitted to the surrounding is not less important.
I think these innovations can be considered as a temporaily alternative solution untill the evironmentally friendly energy is found.
After reading your article, I found we have chosen the same challenge. Indeed, polution to the environment is still increasing while available sources of energy are decreasing. We should cast attention to our environment while trying to settle resources problem. Taking care of the Earth should be a important job.

I think environmental matters are very important nowadays. I would like to highlight your information about the pollution in Ho Chi Minh city. Before reading your article, i was not aware that Ho Chi Minh's level of pollution is that bad. Actually, Jakarta also share the same problem due to high usage of vehicles.
I think developed countries also share the same problem because of industries. It is very dangerous if global pollutant's concentration is above the standard. So, i agree with your suggestion that searching new energy source is very important.
Although I do not think searching for new and environmentally friendly energy is the most challenge for engineers in the 21st century, you indeed provided enough proof to convince me. The energy problem is a very troublesome issue in Earth. According to the scientist, many energy sources will be used up soon. I strongly agree with you that we must concern about the influence that energy sources exert on human's health.
I strongly agree with you. Searching for an environment friendly energy is one of the most important jobs left for we engineers.
